First Steps

The first thing we did was to pull out all the exotics (sorry, Priscilla!). Not a big fan of roses and we only have water to spend on food plants.
We also began soil conditioning (read - composting) for an interim vege garden and added a worm farm. That was just over three month's work.

In the Beginning...

We've always been gardeners, but this project started with a book Sara found a little under four years ago. We were renting at the time, but looking for a rural property; finding this book helped shape our wish-list while we searched. We discarded potential real estate because it was too exposed, too steep, poor drainage, no shade... the list went on. It seemed like forever at the time, but it really only took us about 4 months to find the right place. The book is 'The Permaculture Home Garden', by Linda Woodrow (Viking, 1996) and the property is in Haddon, west-central Victoria, Australia.
